Looks immaculate. I like the 66 decal on the rear window.
i got another correction lol i think this car is a 1970 charger, the reason i say that is this car in the video appears to have the 70 wrap around bumper and no split in the grille, plus the general lee was a 69 and i know that car had a split grille, other ques include the side scoops that are on the front side of the doors with r/t on them which covered the scallops, and the key ignition moved to column from the dash like all other mopars in 1970, and revised door panels and standard map lights
Side markers were now actual lights. The taillights were similar to those used in 69, but 500 and R/T models came with a new more attractive taillight panel, A new 440 or HEMI hood cutout made the option list for this year only, Interior changes included new high-back bucket seats, the glove box was now hinged at the bottom instead of the top as in 1968-69, The SE “Special Edition” option added high end luxury to a full on muscle car and was available as 500 SE and R/T SE models.
The all new pistol grip shifter was introduced, along with a bench seat,a first for the Charger since its debut, A new engine option made the Charger’s list for the first time, the 440 Six Pack. With three two-barrel carburetors and a rating of 390 hp (291 kW)it was one of the most exotic setups since the cross-ram Max Wedge engines of the early 1960s. The Six Pack was previously used on the mid-year 1969 Dodge Super Bee and Plymouth Road Runner and was notorious for beating the Hemi on the street
Despite this hot new engine, production slipped again to 46,576 but most of this was due to the brand new E-body Dodge Challenger and the high insurance rates, i hope your viewers can learn something from this info, i knew this car was a 1970 but i always cross reference it with wikipedia and in turn i figure out if this charger is a 70 or 69 and in turn i actually learned some facts as well! :)win win for every one!
thanks for sharing jack and the 66-70 chargers are my favorite mopars
-Brent
i would also like to add i think the 68-70 charger shared the same rear window styling as the C3 (19681982 shark) corvettes, thats what popped into my mind when you mentioned the rear window, anyways grade A+ Charger in my books!
-Brent
Hey, Brent! Thanks for all that info on this car, certainly more than I had! You are correct on the 1970 model year..the only picture I have is a 69, and as you say, it has the divided grille. With this car you see the beginning of the end of the unfettered muscle car! Yeah, about the Corvette, that rear window came out in some model years! Thanks for the very informative comments!
Jack
Hey, Pete! I think they would be quite expensive, especially in this state of restoration! The classic car market is a bit depressed, but recent auctions indicate that it certainly hadn’t crashed as some had predicted! Thanks for the comment!
Jack
It sure is, Chester…nothing is left to be done on this car! Thanks for the comment!
Jack
reminds me of the dukes of hazzard cept those were 1969 r/t’s. to bad they killed 351 of those cars while filming the show tho.
Another classic Jack, it almost makes me want to start a new project…almost:)
Yeah, Daryl…I know what you mean! At this point in my life, I don’t know that I’d ever do another project…I’d buy it “done”
Thanks for the comment!
Jack
but I guess you can never say that these cars are truly “done”
Yeah, Bernie, it is ashame that so many cars with salvageable parts were sacrificed. Today, it would all be computer generated effects! LOL! Thanks for the comment!
Jack
Beautiful ‘70! ‘70 was the first year of the pistol grip shifter and the electric headlight doors on the chargers. The 440 six pack was a nice addition for ‘70 as well in the charger although the 69.5 super bee and roadrunner had it first. Great video!
Thanks..it sure is! I appreciate the time line on these features! Chrysler products were great muscle cars! Thanks for the comment!
Jack
those clock tachometers are called tic-toc-tachs
That is really cool! Very catchy! Thanks for the info!
